I must admit I was a little skeptical at first, going to my first burlesque show.  I’ve seen burlesque movies and well, wasn’t super interested.  After talking with MsPixy at Wizard World though, I thought I should give it a shot.  The way she described the shows they’ve done, I became intrigued.

Thank goodness I did!  Granted, there was a lot of boob-age, to be expected, and I’m sure the driving force behind some people going, but the writing itself and the acting involved was well worth the wait outside in the cold.  Not only was the show entertaining, it was hilarious!  So many one liners and deadpan (pardon the pun) jokes, it might actually hurt your sides.   The nudity had a purpose, continuing the story from scene to scene, moving from not infected to the living dead.   The actresses did a great job going from living people to sexy zombie fiends.  I haven’t watched an entire episode of Walking Dead, sacrilege I know, but I didn’t have to in order to follow the storyline or to enjoy the jokes.  From moment to moment, they still kept us guessing and laughing and wondering just how much sexier they could get.

I highly recommend checking out one of their many shows – most with nerdy themes, if you’re in the Chicagoland area.  If you’re near New Orleans – check out “Boobs and Goombas – a Super Mario Burlesque”.  I cannot wait to get back there and see another show.

Boobs of the Dead runs through October at Gorilla Tango Theatre in Chicago.  Next up in November “The empire brings sexy back”, the sequel to their first star wars parody.

The new and geeky side of burlesque: Gorilla Tango Burlesque

I got the opportunity to visit with MsPixy, one of the creators of many of Gorilla Tango Burlesque’s risque shows, at Wizard World this year.  Talk about a fun conversation!  MsPixy has been working within the theater world in Chicagoland for quite a few years now.  She was approached by Gorilla Tango to write a [...]

This hasn’t been my first visit to Wizard World but I think it’s been my favorite.  The con seemed more organized than in previous years.  They did a great job of best utilizing their floor space, putting celebrities in the middle for autographs and pictures and making real space for the artists alley between booths [...]

Extermination #1 review

When I picked up Extermination #1 I was genuinely excited. Besides the awesome price of one buck. That’s right it’s only a buck for the first issue. What else excited me was the premise of the book itself. Aliens have come to earth and kicked our butts but good. In the aftermath we find the [...]
