Sometimes you have to watch out for the old Chinese curse, be careful what you ask for, you just might get it. In this case Your future Lovers set out to write an album that was more pop and radio friendly then some of their previous projects and they have definitely made a product that would fit in a top forty format. The problem with doing that is a lot of the album is disposable stuff we have all heard on the radio before. I found it ironic that one of the songs that I liked most was the apt titled I don’t want to die with this song on the radio which speaks to us of the fact that we never know when our final moment will be and you might want to consider what you are doing at any moment since it might be your last, a couple of the tracks fall on the album fall into that exact category. Now I don’t want to indicate that there are no good moments the first track Train is a compelling energy filled muse on how it can feel when life seems to be passing you by. The band also slows things down and get deep in I got it easy which speaks to us of all the things that people take for granted, like having enough to eat and a roof over your head.
The future Lovers Eat Play Leave is not a great album but is pretty good and it does have moments of great promise and I am looking forward to checking out more of their stuff in the future.
