The Manhattans Projects is a new series written by Jonathan Hickman with the art from Nick Pitarra. Like their other installment The Red Wing, Manhattan Project goes about an alternative universe. What if the cooperation of Albert Einstein and Robert Oppenheimer that led to the first A-bomb in 1945 was a covering for something worse?
While issue 1 is making his third print, issue 2 is now on sale. It’s an understatement when I say this new title is rocking Image Comics’ world, because of its popularity.
Now on to issue 2 called: ROCKET MAN. The role that the scientists played during World War II is revealed and we learn more about it. We also see the hidden history of Werner von Braun.
It all starts with Dr. Richard Freyman talking to himself in the mirror. It seems to me that he’s quite fond of himself. Off we go to the War Department where Dr. Freyman is deployed to Los Alamos to escort Doctor Albert Einstein. Through a gateway called the Red Toril, they arrive at their destination.
When they are at Los Alamos, they get an important message from US President Roosevelt telling them that the Nazi’s are on the brink of defeat. But he tells them that there are other conflicts that need to be resolved. The conflict with Japan and the Soviets. President Roosevelt has authorized a strategic effort to recruit German scientists to serve their purpose within the Manhattan Projects called: Operation Paperclip.
Moments later we see Dr. Freyman team up with other American soldiers. Their mission: Infiltrating at the German Science Oberammergau and capture the scientists as they were ordered. But what they find is so shocking; I leave it up to you guys to see it for yourself. I like the way Hickman stays close to the way the Nazi’s followed their Führer in every step of the way and this all makes this alternative universe realistic to me. Let’s just see how it all continues in the next issue.
