Interview questions

How did you get your start in writing? :

I’ve been writing for the past twenty years. Early on, I wrote for a number of Creative Writing classes and English classes, but never anything worth crediting. I’d wiggled my way into becoming an accomplished bass player and dabbled in music for the better part of my early adulthood. After the collapse of my last band, I’d decided that I’d take up the pen – figuratively – and push myself back into what I’d yearned to accomplish as a child. The result was something that I’d hoped for, but wasn’t entirely ready for. My imagination has only grown since childhood.

who are your biggest  influences :

I’d have to say J.R.R. Tolkien. I’m a world-builder that embraces story first. My goal is to construct a new world that the “Potter” generation can appreciate. My tales are for a mature audience and I’d not assume that the world wouldn’t classify them as Young Adult. At some point, the media at large will embrace an adult SF/F that pushes further than a net-savvy niche. I intend to ride that wave; possibly become it.

What is your biggest inspiration when creating? :

An interesting question. My life would be the biggest influence. I’ve experienced many of the cultures of this Earth. I pull from all angles. I suppose the biggest influence to me would be the reaction that the people, that reside on this rock, have towards one another.

Could you give us the details of your current project? :

Only slightly. The next portion of the Chain is deeply rooted in tribalism. It pulls from the history of the planet Xarh and extends from the original story. New characters are revealed that intersect with some of the prominent members in the original tale. One thing’s for certain, those that enjoyed the first book will most certainly see the maniacal, plot-web expanding.

What is the next goal you would like to achieve with your writing? :

I’ll finish this trilogy and market it as best I can. My main goal is to get readers to embrace the concepts and people of Xarh. In the future, I hope to build compilations around the timeframes that exist betweeen, before, and after the trilogy. There are subtle elements that I’ve left out just for this purpose. I’ve built so much into this that I’ll be writing about Xarh until I’m six feet in the dirt.

Final four (questions we ask all interviewees)

When the zombies take over the world where will you be? :

I’ll be holding an axe in one hand and my work, on a flash-drive, in the other. Beyond that, drinking water as frequently as possible. I’ll probably be in Iowa or Kansas somewhere (not sure where that came from).

Jedi, Ninja, vampire, were-wolf, pirate, fairy or Spartan? :

Easy. Vampire. Not big on the “new wave” of vampire stuff. But, the vampire has always intrigued me.

What one piece of art, be it music, book, film or picture, do you think people must experience before they die? :

Mozart. Music is the end all. If I ever have the honor of having my work translated to the motion picture industry, I’ll have to have some control over the score.

Give one fact that most people would not believe about you? :

Though I tend to follow more than lead, I excel in the leadership role. I think it’s a Gemini thing, though I’m not much on Astrology.
