I got the opportunity to visit with MsPixy, one of the creators of many of Gorilla Tango Burlesque’s risque shows, at Wizard World this year.  Talk about a fun conversation!  MsPixy has been working within the theater world in Chicagoland for quite a few years now.  She was approached by Gorilla Tango to write a new burlesque show and she decided to go with what she knows and loves best, geek style.  It’s obvious after talking to her for only a minute or two that she loves what she does as did the other women at the booth who posed with fans throughout the day.

They currently are running 5 shows in Chicago/Skokie which include: 1. A Nude Hope: A Star Wars Burlesque, 2. Holy Bouncing Boobies: A Batman Burlesque, 3. Superboobs:  A Superhero Burlesque Adventure, 4. Temple of Boobs: An Indiana Jones Burlesque, and last but not least 5. Hooter Rangers: A Spicy Morphin Burlesque, which was done so wonderfully that they had to change the name so it wasn’t so closely associated with a certain long-time running Mighty set of shows. They will be starting a new Walking Dead inspired Burlesque in October: The Boobs of the Dead.  Additionally, their show has now expanded to the New Orleans area, with its first showtime two weeks ago tonight.   A certain Italian plumber duo is showing in Boobs and Goomba, which had a long running success in Chicago before getting sent down south.

When asked about the demographics of the audience, MsPixy said that there was quite a diversity seen.  From ladies night to date night to bachelor/bachelorette parties, everyone enjoys the humor and any geek in the audience can appreciate the subtleties that inspired each script.  The performers are varied as well, with some being actresses who  are trying their hand at burlesque, some being geeks who are trying their hand at acting, and some who see the show and want to be a part of the fun long term.
