Halcyon; money for nothing is based on the game Halcyon a near future setting with a mix of magic and high technology, the good news is that unlike a lot of books based on games the author makes a seamless introduction to the world without the reader having to had any experience, though I am sure that fans of the game will have a greater depth of understanding to the events
that are referenced. The story tells the tale of an older mercenary committing one last job to finance his retirement, amidst corporate back stabbing and people vying for control of the strike force. The story has been told
before but the introduction of a dark elf ninja does add something new to the mix. Christopher Bair tells the story in
a straight forward manner and while there are some moments that make you groan (one of the mercenaries being called bull’s-eye for instance), the over all effect is entertaining and we hope to see more from this author in the future.
