Steven Brust has long been a favorite of mine; I have read countless stories of his sarcastic assassin, Vlad Taltos and enjoyed them
thoroughly. Iorich is the latest novel to star Vlad and I was looking forward to another great funny adventure and for the most part I got it. I liked the book and it hit most of the spots that you expect from this kind of novel, a witty protagonist  fighting figuring out a mystery involving the empress, a criminal empire and a legion of evil sorceresses while trading quips with his draconian side kick but it gave me a large feeling of been there done that. One of the great things about the early books was that while we had the day to day adventures there was also a larger story waiting in the wings and now that some of that has been addressed going
back to just another conspiracy was a bit of a let down. I don’t want to indicate that you should not pick it up it is an enjoyable if somewhat short read and any of his fans will enjoy it I am just wishing that Steven could pick up his game a little and give us something with a little more sustenance.
