Interview questions

 

How did you get your start in writing?

I started writing short stories and poems when I was eight years old.  When I was in high school and college, some of my poetry and articles were published in various literary magazines.  Stream of consciousness writing has also been my method for resolving various issues, questions or difficulties in my life.

 

who are your biggest  influences

Although not in my current genre, my early influences were playwrights like Ibsen, Lorca, Ionesco, and Albee.  My favorite poets are William Carlos Williams and E.E. Cummings.  I also enjoy novelists like Tom Robbins, Ann Tyler, John Irving and Larry McMurtry.  In the non-fiction field, I’ve always enjoyed Studs Terkel, Tom Wolfe and Mitch Albom.

What is your biggest inspiration when creating?

get very geared up when, in the course of my research, I run across testimony or statements that inject me right into that historical moment and give me a feel for the time.  I hope my readers experience that in my work.

 

Could you give us the details of your current project?

In my research on true stories from The Pale of Settlement, I hope to imbue the reader with the day-to-day flavor, fears, and concerns, as well as accomplishments of those oppressed Jews.

 

What is the next goal you would like to achieve with your writing?

My next goal is to turn “Rasputin and The Jews: A Reversal of History” into a screenplay.  Currently, there are two movies about Rasputin in the works – one in English and one in French.  And, while trying to depict Rasputin as a more complex character than has been done in the past, I fear they still adhere to much of the myth.  No one before has written about his humanitarian works for the Jews, the peasants and the poor and this is what I’d like to focus on.

When the zombies take over the world where will you be?

I’m pretty sure I’ll be living on the planet Hera, in the Heran Universe, with the enlightened, peace-loving, aliens known as Isisians, sipping hallucinogenic wine – far from the primitive battle that the zombies will instigate on Earth.

 

Jedi, Ninja, vampire, were-wolf, pirate, fairy or Spartan?

Yah, none of those.  Nothing is scarier or weirder than my current persona: 61 year old opinionated female Jewish ex-hippie in relaxed fit jeans and Birkenstocks (with socks) – no make-up and white hair. … and, (God help me – something I used to slam middle-aged women for) two miniature dogs.

 

What one piece of art, be it music, book, film or picture, do you think people must experience before they die?

The film “Life is Beautiful” with Roberto Benigni

 

Give one fact that most people would not believe about you? 

Given my age and slightly spreading girth, not to mention my acerbic wit, people would not believe that, in the early 70’s, I was a Playboy Bunny.
