To put it simply, it’s a female lead vocal with an Ozzy Osbourne cover band…although you gotta love a chic who can growl (I guess). There’s not much that stands out for this band other than they’re very heavy and they have a female lead. But they definitely beat the shit out of a similar band called Evanescense. Then again that’s not saying very much. There’s
not a whole lot of change betweens tracks, just straight forward fast tunes that make you double check to see if your CD player is on repeat. Track 4 is called “Slow Motion” however the song has the pace of a Red Bull addicted teenager with ADD. I’m still trying to figure out why some of these new bands think its cool to growl because it really isn’t anything to brag about. That shit doesn’t fly with most rock fans let alone major record labels. The one track that goes outside of the routine is “Sweet Destruction
Interlude,” and it’s their best track. Very smooth and melodic and it shows a different and tighter side of the
band. I wish they would’ve incorporated a few more of these songs to help balance out the album and show some
range. I actually think their strong point is a softer track. Don’t get me wrong I love hard rockin’ tunes…when they’re done right. But in this case the softer song is definitely better than hearing a verse of overused power chords and a chorus of
growling. The lead singer does have a very good voice, as a matter fact one could compare it to Gwen Stefani back when she was with No Doubt. All in all, Kittie is a solid band but I think if they step back and recognize where the real magic is then their future
may be a little brighter.
