It’s always good to know that there are some bands still trying to bring back some heavy tunes. It’s been about 7 years
since the fall of that boy band shit (thank god!!!); but this band falls a bit short of the grade. I think the name of
the band speaks for itself…Nonpoint. So what are you saying? There’s no point to your music? If that’s the case, they’ve succeeded. Now…before I begin, I’d like to say that this is not the kind of music I would search for, however I always
keep an open mind for good musicianship regardless of the music genre. This live album certainly doesn’t let the
listeners forget where there from (Ft. Lauderdale aka “home town”), but it also doesn’t give you any chance to hear something new. By “new” I mean a change in song structure. Balance…the way the song flows…something other than giving the crowd something to smash the shit out of each other. When each song begins with the drummer banging away (by the way the
drummer is excellent) it kind of gives you a sense of repetition. The lead singer’s voice fits the music very
well and he’s got some good pitch, but it’s all been heard before (Korn, Pantera, etc.) and the guitars are standard power chords. One song that the singer points out is “The Wreckening,” and as he says, “This is our dancing song.” Ok.
Well it sounds like the rest of your songs genius!!! At this point of the show everybody is kicking the shit out of each other which is great because that’s what the fans are there do to, but don’t try and tell us it’s for “dancing.” With all due respect, Nonpoint does give their fans what they want, and the fans definitely dig the energy of the band. The problem I have is that
they’re songs are not original. They’ve got some talent, but there’s a “Nonpoint” in every city in America. You know a loud, screaming, kick some ass type of band that’s playing the local watering hole on a regular basis. According to the lead singer, they’ve been around since 1997 and it seems that Nonpoint has a loyal (local) fan base, but I’m thinking that’s about as far as it goes. Who knows, that may be the kind of success that they’re looking for. Best of luck to them, but it looks
like Ft.Lauderdale is where this train stops.
