in original productions from the life of Robert E Howard’s Red Sonja.
What about Red Sonja drew you to her as a character?
Everything. First off i looked enough like her. When i started doing Sonja the Dynamite comics hadn’t come out with a new run for her yet. So the art i had seen was Frank Thorne’s circa 1970s.
How did you get started in acting?
You know i am not sure. i remember being really little and always wanting to play dress up…boy that hasn’t changed much. Eventually i started puppeteering for a kid’s program at a local library, then i started doing storytelling for
local school and renn faires. Somewhere along the way i played in a couple of b-movies. Eventually Sonja bit me and here i am.
What made you decide to start producing your own stage show?
i really wanted to play Red Sonja, but i wanted to do it right. Really the only way we could have started doing it then was if i did the costumes and gathered the props. i haven’t solo produced though in sometime. Other members of the act
often pitch in and buy a new prop or lighting device to add to it. A large part of the costumes however are made by me.
Where do you usually perform?
At any comic convention that’ll have us. hahaha. We have performed at the Paramount theater in Bristol TN. We also perform at Renaissance faires. We have also been asked to perform at comic book stores for special event days.
So i guess all over.
Do you have any other characters that you perform and any plans for the future?
Eventually i’d like to create my own Sonja-like character. i did create a pirate character named Maggie Flynn. i have done a little on stage with her but not as much as i’d like.
