Andrew Anderson is a regular part of the Paper Dragon Ink team doing review and commentary on the comics community but he also has outside projects one of which has been optioned for film and we asked him to take a moment from his busy schedule to give us the low down on the project and how it got picked up for translation into a movie.
Q) Can you give us a quick rundown on 31 and what inspired you to create it? 
31 is a story about spies who have a number, no names. Not even their partners know who they are. So when 31 starts and his sister is taken hostage, he suspects a leak in the organization.
I was 17 when 31 first started to talk to me and tell me his story. I was working at a water park and I sat behind a roasted corn cart all day. I thought it would be cool to tell a spy story out of order.
Q) How did the project come to be optioned for film?
I received an email from a producer, and several emails later, it was optioned.
Q) What was the good news and bad news about getting optioned? Did you have to give up any control on your creation?
I gave up writing control as far as what goes into the film. I do have a lot of say in the adaption, but yet at the same time, I’m not allowed to write the film script. The good news was I wrote something that some one thought was good.
Q) Do you have any advice on people trying to get their properties into different mediums?
Not really. It’s Hollywood. They call you.
Q) I saw that you have used Kickstarter as a means of funding and was successful; do you have tips on running a Kickstarter campaign?
Not really. You just have to promote the hell out of it.
Q) Do you have any other creative projects in the works?
I have War of the Gods in the works, and I have one more with a person I met at a convention last year. We aren’t really ready to talk about that one quite yet, but I’ve seen some of the concept art for it.
