One of the biggest boons to living in New York City is all of the amazing events that happen here.  One of the best events in NYC (for geeks at least) is Book Expo America, held in the Jacob Javits Center.  It is an industry event that bring publishers face to face with librarians, booksellers and bloggers like me to promote the next best thing.  Here are a few highlights of the show….

Books from Amazon Publishing

Here are some of the geeky options coming out of Amazon Publishing.  I have fallen in love with the upcoming Buffy and Star Trek books.  The detail in the excerpts I read is amazing and I can’t wait for November for their release!

Disney Publishing/Marvel has a ton of fun looking kids books coming out!  Best thing happened at this booth.  At the end of the show, many booths will give away displays so they don’t have to haul it back.  When I asked if Disney was doing this at the end of the show, they said they were actually donating all of them!  Highfive Disney/Marvel!

Spotted the world’s tallest man at a booth.  I never did figure out why the Harlem Globtrotters were there but they are always fun to see!

Ray Bradbury passed away right as BEA was beginning.  HarperCollins had this touching tribute to him at their booth.  It was a very sober moment to be standing by this.

And here is my book haul!  Mot of it anyways.  :)  Totally worth the aching feet and burst blood vessels in my shoulder.  (Kinda wish I was kidding about that)  In that pile is every genre, from romance, historical fiction, drama, self help, scifi, fantasy, graphic novels and children’s.  I have already started reading and can’t wait to keep going!
