This book was a very different kind of read.  While it does not fit into the box for fantasy or Science fiction, many fans of both would enjoy it.  We follow 3 teen girls as they figure out their powers and start using them in their neighborhoods.  Each of these teens live in a different country so they have no idea about the others.  There is a person to help them as well as an entity to corrupt them.  These powers are not “super powers” in the usual fantasy way.  The girls are all able to help heal the world.

 

Koemi has been helping people by getting them to laugh.  First she helps them remember a good time by talking with them. Then she reminds them what it is to laugh.  Laughter just like yawning is contagious.  Try it for yourself.  All of us can use laughter to help us make a better world.  Remember the saying about laughing instead of crying.  Here is a book to help you.

 

The second teen we meet is Harata and she can leave her body to enter other creatures or people.  After seeing a terrorist attack as a spirit, she tries experiments to see exactly what she is capable of doing.  She does figure out how to enter people’s minds and starts entering terrorists’ minds to convince them not to complete their attacks.  The first person she has to help is her brother.  Harata acts as their conscience in order to help them follow their own beliefs.

 

Our third heroine is Eleanor (Ellie).  She is an artist who can manipulate colors of living things.  When she looks at people, she sees their auras.  While looking at them, she can also move the colors of their auras and thus heal them.  What a great power to help the world.  She even teaches other children how to do this.

 

We also meet Agostino.  He is aware of their powers and helps each of them develop their powers.  He is also aware of the Corrupter who wants to take over the world and turn it dark, horrible and make everyone unhappy.  During the book Agostino dies which allows the Corrupter to kidnap our heroines along with 4 boys that have similar powers.

 

The Corrupter brings all 7 teens together so he can study them and find their weaknesses.  Unfortunately for him, it backfires.  If you want to find out how the story ends, you have to pick it up and read it.

 

I did enjoy the detail and the creativity of each ones powers.  Ms. Labermeier has written a wonderfully descriptive tale of good against evil, sharing, teaching, healing and bringing people together for one purpose.  While it is not a typical fantasy or science fiction book; it is a book of great power and ex-ordinary people.  I highly recommend reading it.
