I had the opportunity to read Bloodstrike #28 from Image Comics. Written by Tim Seeley with art by Francesco Gaston.

This issue follows nugene (aka mutant) Cabbot Stone as he recaps his day, right before he runs into his brother for a small battle. We also get a behind the scenes look at who runs their secret agency and his philandering ways. The story is well balanced with action and story.
Despite never reading it before, I was able to jump right in and follow along. The concept seems a bit like an X-Men story but fresher since these characters haven’t been around for fifty years. It was nice to read a mutant story with characters I still needed to learn about.
The art was basic fare throughout the issue with a few highlights. There was a great gore moment in the beginning, with amazing detail on the jaw. I also was impressed with an explosion panel, where everything went black and white.
Bloodstrike was a great read, especially if you are burned out on X-Men. I am even tempted to get back issues to catch myself up, it was that interesting.
