Cyclonis on behalf of Empyreal Destroyer
How did you get your start in music?
Empyreal Destroyer were formed in 2006 as a two piece studio project. It was
down to timing and ability. The members involved then had reached a point where
we could manifest this band into being. We achieved some underground acclaim and
then recruited other musicians to play live music making us a touring unit in
2007.
who are your biggest musical influences?
In the beginning as a band we were heavily "inspired" by acts such as Death,
Steve Vai and Mayhem, as well as composers from outside the metal world. On a
personal level I listen to a lot of Mercyful Fate, Satriani and Buckethead. We
generally strive to sound as unique as possible. If something sounds too similar
to something else its generally reworked or scrapped. We are writing again for
our seminal release (2010/11) and comparisons in parts have been made to Opeth,
Buckethead, Sonic Youth, Ihsahn, early Satyricon, Samael and Morbid Angel
amongst others.
What is your biggest inspiration when creating music?
To create something truly unique. To express the inner collective "I" that is
Empyreal Destroyer. To manifest each and every conduit of every individual
involved when expressing the greater concept of creation.
Could you give us the details of your current project
Curse All Creation is due for worldwide release late this year. The album has
been in creation since our inception. It is a representation of the first era of
Empyreal Destroyer (2006-8). Changes in the line up delayed its release until
this year but the work itself is a journey into the truly creative and absurd...
symphonic death metal entwined in epic constructions flowing effortlessly into
one another. Everyone to date (including fellow musicians) who has heard the
initial mixes have been impressed. It should be available at all suitable
retailers.
We are further currently writing our seminal release "Daemonik" due for release
in 2010 or 11. We pushing boundaries here once again.
What is the next goal you would like to achieve with your
music?
Everything we do in this band is create a legacy. It is through the help of our
fans and well wishers that we achieve what we do. We genuinely want to further
our genre of music and every step we take towards doing this is the "next goal."
When the zombies take over the world where will you be?
I love zombie flicks. I would imagine a dawn of the dead scenario (the newer
version since I don't like slow zombies) or maybe a return of the living dead
one. I'll be on the road with my friends looking for survivors.
Jedi, Ninja, vampire, were-wolf, pirate, fairy or Spartan?
Ninja or spartan. Not a big fan of the rest.
What one piece of art, be it music, book, film or picture,
do you think people must experience before they die?
As of late I've been listening to "into the pink" by Wojciech Golczewski. I've
been mesmerized by it.
Give one fact that most people would not believe about you?
All the members of ED live in a cave and eat spiders... a little bit of an
inside joke here.
