Interview questions

How did you get your start in writing?

I started writing poetry and short stories back in high school. I fell in love with filmmaking and learned how to write screenplays. While in art school, I developed an affinity for novels and novellas. I focused completely on writing novels, and hung up my filmmaker hat for good.

Who are your biggest influences?

I have three that's tied for first place, and one of them is a musician, not an author. First is Anne Rice. I love the way she tells a story. Her writing is easy to follow, yet extremely clever and filled with metaphors. The first fifty pages of Memnoch the Devil is brilliant. You have a gangster that thinks he's invincible, being stalked by a vampire that thinks he's invincible, being stalked by the devil. It was really cool how she pulled that off. Next on my list is Nancy Holder. Her book Heat changed the way I perceived scenery and weather. A lot of writers try to use as little description as they can when telling a story, and I thought that was the way to go, until I read Heat. I loved the way she made you feel the hot weather wrapping itself around you as you flipped from page to page. Last is actually John Lennon. I love the wit, cynicism and hidden honesty of his lyrics.

What is your biggest inspiration when creating?

Other artists. Mostly music, but TV shows and lately youtube videos. Seriously, I’ll watch a fan video about something they love, and the need to create builds inside of me. Like now, I’m normally not into writing romance, but I know it’s needed in stories so I put it in them. But I’ve seen a few fan videos on youtube about this couple from a TV show called Skins that has me itching to tell a love story.

Could you give us the details of your current project?

Well, I like to say it’s about destiny. It’s about whether we choose our on destiny, or if it’s chosen for us. That’s what I believe my main character’s journey is about. Rose, my main character, had spent the last three years of her life living in a small town trying to remember something about her past. She’d awoken in a hospital with no memory of who she was or how she got there. All she had was the story the nurse and the guy who claimed to have saved her from a car accident told her. So, her world gets turned upside down when five men show up at her place and attacks her. David, the guy who claimed to have saved her from the car accident, rescues Rose and talks her into going on the run with him. During this time a strange snowstorm is slowly covering the world. There are those that believe Rose and the snowstorm are connected, and want to use or kill her because of it. So David has to protect Rose from supernatural creatures that resemble humans and a secret government that has existed since the time of Augustus Caesar, while trying to keep from her the fact that she isn’t human. Actually, she’s one of a kind, the only person to be born with all three bloodlines of mystical beings known as Seeds. You see, a Seed being born with all three bloodlines is like a human being born with three different souls. No one knows what Rose’s existence means.

What is the next goal you would like to achieve with your writing?

To continue to write in the world I created for Three Seeds, and have more people fall in love with it. I went to a convention recently, and saw Sherrilyn Kenyon. The way her fans responded to her work, seemed more like people talking about real people instead of made up characters. I want that. I want to keep creating until a room full of people gets into heated or playful debates about my characters as if they were real.

Final four (questions we ask all interviewees)

When the zombies take over the world where will you be?

In front of my computer writing or watching youtube videos.

Jedi, Ninja, vampire, were-wolf, pirate, fairy or Spartan?

I can’t choose between a vampire and a Jedi. So how about a vampire Jedi!

What one piece of art, be it music, book, film or picture, do you think people must experience before they die?

The Beatles 1967-1970 album.

Give one fact that most people would not believe about you?

 Zombies freak me out!
