Lipstick Magazine –

There are some great current bands but I feel that the current scene does not have enough straight forward rock in roll bands. I am a big fan of Pat Benetar and Vixen so I am always on the lookout for a great rock band with a talented female lead singer. So when I found Lipstick Magazine I had to put them in a feature.

How did Lipstick magazine come together and where did you guys come up with the name?

Lipstick Magazine originated from Toni, Damon, David and Nat, all friends for years and playing in separate projects, decided to all got together one day and started writing the songs you hear on the new CD "Skin Deep". The name was thought up when the band was rehearsing one night and had some friends down listening. Lipstick represents Toni (our beautiful female singer) and Magazine represents the power of the band or music, Magazine was meant as a gun magazine. If you look at the bands earlier logo it was a beautiful woman with 2 guns toting in the air, hence Lipstick Magazine.

I see you guys are being joined by Marco Mendoza (from Whitesnake and The Lynch Mob) and Tommy Aldridge (from Ozzy and Whitesnake) for your latest recording. How did that come up?

Damon Marks (guitarist) is very good friends with Mike T. Ross (keyboardist for Lita Ford), Damon mentioned the idea of bringing Tommy and Marco in since they had played in Whitesnake together as well as many other projects, great legendary names and a very solid rhythm section. Mike introduced Damon to Marco and Marco then hooked Damon up with Tommy Aldridge, after they heard the music and found out about Mike Plotnikoff, they were interested in working with the band.

Who do you guys draw influence and inspiration from when writing your music?

Daughtry, Buckcherry, Journey, Heart

You finished your latest album Skin Deep with the help of producer Mike Plotnikoff who has produced albums with Daugherty and Buck Cherry. What was that experience like?

We actually produced and recorded Skin Deep on our own in its entirety, the title track song "Skin Deep" was just recently aired on a LeBron James feature on Fox 5 TV NY's "Sports Extra" to over 1 million viewers, that is what peeked Plotnikoff's attention, we decided to take Skin Deep and have him produce it and make it into a #1 Hit.

Now that Skin Deep is done what is next for Lipstick magazine?

Recording at the end of April in LA with Mike Plotnikoff, we have a week of planned meetings with other big names in the industry while we are out there, a possible summer tour with Marco Mendoza and Tommy Aldridge and then go back in to the studio for a 2nd release.

What was the most important thing you learned from founding the band to getting your album out?

That the music biz has changed drastically, do as much as you can on your own, try to control as much of what you can, write great songs and money talks, bullshit walks....
If people want to know more about Lipstick magazine or pick up your music where should they go?
