Interview questions

How did you get your start in writing?

In the second grade, my teacher asked the class to write a three sentence essay of what we would do if we were the President. She loved my answer so much, she entered it into the Young Nevada Writers Book of '83. I was presented the book in front of the entire school, my name was in the newspapers, and the then-governor sent me a personalized letter of congratulations. Ever since then, I've been hooked on being a writer. Many thanks to Mrs. Holloway of Dayton, NV for starting me on my journey.
And the essay in question?
"If I were President, I would not steal or start a war. I would throw the whole country a party. Then, I would pick someone else to be President."
:)

Who are your biggest influences?
No one moreso than my fellow authors. Everyone I know writes such amazing books, that I don't have to look too far for a new story idea. Sometimes, their ideas give me ideas and then the "what if" wheels start turning.
Also, music plays a big part for me for inspiration. Sometimes, a certain lyric can just reach into my brain and pull out a story.

What is your biggest inspiration when creating?
Music and pictures. I'm a very visual-hands-on kind of person. I need to zone when I write, so on go the headphones and I rock out. I also have a few choice pictures of my characters open so I can glance at them while writing, to help my mind's eye picture them in their story.

Could you give us the details of your current project?
My current project is RIDE THE LIGHTNING. It's about a ghost cowboy who only appears during thunderstorms. His soul is stuck in a loop, and every time the storm breaks up, he's pulled back in time, to the Old West, where he must relive his unjust murder over and over again--that is, unless his heroine can follow him back in time and save his life...
This story came from a few different ideas. I love writing Westerns. They're my genre of choice. I also love the idea of ghosts. But I haven't read any ghost cowboys in romance. So that "what if" coalesced. Once I had that, I had to figure out a way to give the hero and heroine a happily ever after. You can't have a relationship with a ghost! So a plot started forming to that end, which turned into a time-travel, because of course, the heroine can only save him by stopping his murder in the 1870's...
I think it's going to be a great little book. :)

What is the next goal you would like to achieve with your writing?
To break into Harlequin. I have two projects submitted to them currently. If they pass, I'll send those projects into Carina Press, Harlequin's eBook publishing house. Since they're separate, you can submit your project to Carina even if Harlequin proper rejects it. If both of those venues pass, well then, I'm going to give all my energy into being the best darn ePublished author I can be.

Final four (questions we ask all interviewees)

When the zombies take over the world where will you be?
I will be fortified at my friend's Gabe's house, where he's fully stocked on food, guns, ammo, and ninja stars. Dude's not messing around, and will totally be ready for World War Z.

Jedi, Ninja, vampire, were-wolf, pirate, fairy or Spartan?
Ooo, hard question. Ultimately, a ninja. I have a soft spot for kick-ass Asian men.

What one piece of art, be it music, book, film or picture, do you think people must experience before they die?
The song ANGELS by Within Temptation
David Tennant's Doctor Who
Joss Whedon's Firefly
GENTLE ROGUE by Johanna Lindsey
And as cheesy as it is, DRAGONHEART the movie, if only to experience the glory of the soundtrack and to see the one and only intelligent dragon in cinema. (Eragon doesn't hold a candle to Draco.)

Give one fact that most people would not believe about you?
I'm pretty darn good on the Rock Band drums, and kick ass on HARD 95-98% of the time. EXPERT, though, smacks me down. :)
