places where music is available for purchases
I’ve been kind of a slacker about getting my itunes and snocap up because I’ve
been working on a distribution deal with an indie label. But I’m getting the
downloads up soon. Songs available for purchase for film and video game
soundtracks through www.songplacements.com
Interview questions
How did you get your start in music?
Everyone in my family was pretty musical. I used to go to band practice with my
uncle when I was three or four. I started setting up pots and pans in the
kitchen and drumming the crap out of them until somebody bought me a drum set. I
was still in elementary school, I think. Then my dad gave me his ’64 Gibson
acoustic when I was maybe in junior high and was such a loner that I taught
myself to play and just started writing punk songs. I got a band together in 7th
grade and just never stopped playing. When I was in high school I was in a band
called Below Zero, which is when I went to Seattle. Tooth and Nail Records
offered us a deal so we all piled in my truck and drove out there. When we
arrived, they pulled the offer off the table. It pissed me off for a while, but
I’m still here, still playing and I’ve got a lot of support. It was a good (and
expensive) learning experience.
who are your biggest musical influences
Really, the question should be who aren’t my biggest musical influences? I love
all music. I don’t really listen to country, but I’ll go to a bluegrass festival
any day of the week. In any society, say humans are wiped out and replaced by
another species that isn’t homo sapiens but are a descendant of ours, the first
thing that that society will do is to create sound, music and art. Music is
imperative to civilization, no matter what kind of music it is.
What is your biggest inspiration when creating music?
Isolation, insanity, the state of the world, the effect of drug use (or perhaps
the after effect; I’m not really sure which) addiction, life, death (and the
contemplation of it), racing thoughts, dirty government, paranoia, love, beauty,
genius, stupidity, the DEA, heroin, the pain in my back, the pain in my stomach,
the voices in my head.
Could you give us the details of your current project.
Wasted Wonderland is more a concept than a band name. We, as human beings, live
in a Wasted Wonderland. We had a beautiful earth and land. Everything we were
given, whether you believe in a god or not, we have completely destroyed. To be
more specific, corporations have destroyed our Wonderland, and as a consequence
my projects will always involve this particular belief in one way or the other.
What is the next goal you would like to achieve with your
music?
I would like to continue to have the fan base and support that I have, to be
heard on a greater scale, to bring awareness to the masses, to find some other
musicians who get what the hell I’m trying to do so that I can go into the
studio as a band and not have to play all of the instruments myself (I cannot
perform live without a cohesive group), to educate young people that dreams are
important and you never give up no matter how discouraged you may be. I want to
send out peace and love and positive vibes.
final four (questions we ask all interviewees)
When the zombies take over the world where will you be?
I assume I will be one of them.
Jedi, Ninja, vampire, were-wolf, pirate, fairy or Spartan?
People call me Yoda.
What one piece of art, be it music, book, film or picture,
do you think people must experience before they die?
Masculin Feminin, directed by Jean Luc Godard. Part of the Criterion Collection
and available at most libraries. And of course, Nature is always the most
beautiful artwork available.
Give one fact that most people would not believe about
you?
I used to pick dead people up from the morgue in a van and deliver them to the
funeral home. Best job I ever had.
